A garden tour through Thuringia

BUGA Erfurt 2021 with its 26 outdoor locations has shown that Thuringia is a land of parks and gardens.

The egapark in Erfurt is one of the largest and most important garden and leisure centres in Germany and a real gem for nature lovers and garden enthusiasts. Covering an area of around 36 hectares, the park offers an impressive variety of botanical features, historical gardens and modern themed gardens.

The spa and rose town of Bad Langensalza with its eight parks and gardens is a special tip for garden fans. Almost 450 species and varieties of roses are on display in the rose garden alone.

Altenstein Castle and Park (a district of Bad Liebenstein) was once the summer residence of the Dukes of Saxe-Meiningen and is now the largest landscape park in Thuringia. The 160-hectare park with its spectacular natural backdrop offers a unique symbiosis of nature, horticulture and architecture. At the foot of the castle, skilled gardeners create a carpet bed of 4,600 plants based on historical models year after year.
